Hand Reflexology

With many holistic therapies, hand reflexology helps relieve pain, stress and anxiety. The theory behind hand reflexology is that areas of the hand correspond to organs and systems of the body. Pressure applied to the hand is believed to bring relaxation and healing to the body. Experiences with reflexology sessions vary from a general feeling of relaxation, to a sense of lightness or tingling in the body, as well as feelings of warmth, a sense of opening or energy moving. Reflexology rests on the ancient Chinese belief in qi, or vital energy.

According to this belief, qi flows through each person. when a person feels stressed, their body blocks qi. This causes an imbalance in the body that leads to illness. Reflexology aims to keep qi flowing through the body, keeping it balanced and disease free. The belief is that touch sends energy flowing through a persons body until it reaches the areas that needs healing.

Along with healing the inner body, hand reflexology strengthens the connection between mind, body and soul, bringing you into union whilst bringing a new depth of life to you.

Magnesium oil

Magnesium oil is made from a mixture of magnesium chloride flakes and water. When these two substances are combined, the resulting liquid has an oily feel, but it isn't technically oil. Magnesium chloride is an easy to absorb form of magnesium that is able to raise levels of this nutrient within the body when applied topically to the skin. Magnesium is an important nutrient to have in the body as it is used for the function of regulating nerve and muscle function, supporting healthy pregnancy and lactation, maintaining blood sugar levels, maintaining blood pressure levels, manufacturing and supporting protein, bone and DNA health.

Magnesium oil helps relax tight, sore or inflamed muscles naturally whilst also regulating nerve function to ease the pain whilst in treatment and after. This oil is also the perfect treatment for cramping muscles or spasms and helping muscles recover faster after being used. Don't be worried if the magnesium oil is tingly after applying, this simply means that you're deficient in magnesium so you're body is absorbing it at a faster rate to compensate for the lack of magnesium in the body.

Massage Therapy

Massage is a treatment that aims to relax, revive and heal the body. Using manual hands-on movements and manipulation of the soft tissues and muscles in the body, massage therapy works to promote healing and enhance a person’s overall well-being. A massage is the stroking, kneading, rolling, and pressing of the skin and muscles. There are many different styles, each with different origins and aims, but the premise of the treatment is the same - to relax and rebalance the body and to make you feel good.

With more than 250 variations of massage and bodywork therapies available around the world, understandably, it can get a little overwhelming. As a massage therapist I offer, therapeutic and soft/deep tissue massage.

Therapeutic massage is a hands-on body treatment often used to treat a specific injury or concern. Someone trained to offer therapeutic massage will have the expertise to assess you before the treatment, to understand what the concern is and which techniques would be best suited during the massage. As this approach is typically used to help with issues (and is sometimes called medical massage), there is also likely to be a treatment plan. This may involve exercises for you to do at home and a plan of regular massage sessions.

Deep tissue massage targets the deeper layers of our muscular and connective tissues. It does this through slow and deep stroking motions and targeted finger pressure. This approach can be used for a number of reasons including helping to release tension and pain in particularly tight muscles, promoting mobility, breaking up scar tissue following injury and encouraging blood flow and healing. During a deep tissue massage I will focus on any problem areas you have, most commonly these are the back, shoulders, neck and legs. Like all massage, deep tissue work can also have a relaxing effect, giving you the opportunity to lie back and de-stress.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a holistic healing treatment that uses natural plant extracts to promote health and well-being. Sometimes it’s called essential oil therapy. Aromatherapy uses aromatic essential oils medicinally to improve the health of the body, mind, and spirit. It enhances both physical and emotional health. Aromatherapy is thought of as both an art and a science. Recently, aromatherapy has gained more recognition in the fields of science and medicine.

Humans have used aromatherapy for thousands of years. Ancient cultures in China, India, Egypt, and elsewhere incorporated aromatic plant components in resins, balms, and oils. These natural substances were used for medical and religious purposes. They were known to have both physical and psychological benefits.

The term “aromatherapy” was coined by a French perfumer and chemist René-Maurice Gattefossé in a book he wrote on the topic that was published in 1937. He had previously discovered the healing potential of lavender in treating burns.

Hot stone massage

The stone massage is a form of alternative medicine massage therapy and bodywork involving the placement of either heated or cooled stones to the body for the purpose of pain relief, relaxation and therapy. There are many variations and techniques used in the application of stone massage therapy, deriving from a variety of traditional practices. Stone massages are primarily used to alleviate physical pain issues, however, are also used to promote emotional and spiritual wellbeing in practice.

Stone massage and similar practices involving the placement of objects of different temperatures have been dated back to ancient civilisations as a form of healing and therapy. Cultures including Native American, Hawaiian and many South Pacific nations have practiced similar methods of ritual and technique to provide physical and spiritual ease. The traditional Hawaiian healing massage ‘Lomilomi’ involves the use of warmed Lomi stones in order to increase areas of blood flow in the body and provide a healing. Similar practices in China have also dated back 2000 years involving the use of heated stones to stimulate improved internal organ function. Such traditional practices have evolved and influenced the application of modern stone massage practices.
